Mrs. Welker helps K-3rd students understand "big feelings"
Mrs. Welker, our school counselor, visited Kindergarten through 3rd grade classrooms yesterday as Queen Elsa to encourage students to use coping skills when they are feeling "big feelings". She talked about how Queen Elsa uses her ice powers when she is feeling big feelings. She read "Don't Blow Your Top!" to Kindergarten and 1st grade classes which taught the students to take deep breaths, count, and think happy thoughts when they are having strong feelings. She read "A Little Peaceful Spot" to 2nd and 3rd grade classes which taught students to identify what they are feeling and taught different coping tools such as breathing techniques, coloring, journaling, listening to music, reading books, or looking at peaceful pictures to help cope with any negative feelings they could be having.
